Hybrid Natures explores and supports key natural ecosystems, combining physical and digital elements. The theme of the 1st edition is the Amazon rainforest. The Amazon rainforest is one of the richest ecosystems in the world. It is the largest rainforest and it is crucial to sustaining life on Earth. It has a total extension of 3.2 million square miles (828.8 million hectares), distributed in 9 countries: Brazil, Peru, Colombia, Venezuela, Bolivia, Guyana, Suriname, Ecuador and French Guiana. The Amazon rainforest is the home of 10% of all known species. Through its river system flows 20% of all freshwater, there live more than 40 million people and more than 500 indigenous groups, and stores 22% of all irrecoverable carbon.
